Tim K.
My name is Tim Kisala and fitness has been a major part of my life for the last 9 years now. It all started in mid-2012 when I began rowing for Don Bosco Prep. From there I was introduced to a cross-fit style of fitness, doing high interval cardio and sprints with a moderation of strength training incorporated. I partook in this training from 2012-2016 where I afterwards went on to start doing more hypertrophy and strength work. At this time, I did not have a coach and was mainly using internet forums and apps to help me achieve my goals, more or less doing what felt good and stuck to it. In early 2017, I joined the US Air Force and did mainly calisthenics and cardio training for about 6 months straight. Once I arrived at my first base in Aviano, Itlay, I focused on strength and heavy lifting to become stronger and work on my size in the process. This was going quite well for me for some time, until I encountered a number of problems including a torn supraspinatus that resulted in me not being able to bench for about 8 months. With this being said, I underwent physical rehabilitation and started to ease my way back into the training until it become fully healed in the first months of 2020. From there I kept doing my powerlifting style of training, however there were still areas of which I knew I needed to improve on. That said, I enlisted in Gavin’s help and told him I was interested in him coaching me for the start of 2021 to take my strength to the next level.
The amount of support and technical advice I got from Gavin was astounding and second to none. He knew exactly what I wanted to do, and knew exactly how to program me to get there. After working with him for almost 6 months, Gavin has given me technical advice I never would have considered on my own or without proper feedback. Furthermore, Gavin has instilled a special philosophy about training that I keep in my heart everyday I walk through the gym doors and get ready to attack our training. He has stayed true and kept his promise to build a coach-athlete relationship and prides himself on doing the same with all his clients. His own philosophy of “the weight doesn’t give a f**k what you’re going through” is something that I have implemented everyday and remember whenever I may go into training with 1000 things on my mind. My progress with Gavin has only served to better myself and my performance in and outside the gym. I am not only proud, but honored to be able to call this man my coach, my very good friend, and a brother, as well as one of the most deserving people I know.
